Inquest hears Sydney father shot in back at park he used for extramarital affairs

A coronial inquest has heard a father-of-three gunned down in an execution-style murder was found in Sydney park where he used to sleep with other women.

The body of Momtaz Kabbout, 46, was found face down in Shortland Brush Lookout at Lansdowne in south-west Sydney in July 2012.

The park was not far from the Fairfield home he shared with his wife Bouchra and their three children.

Counsel assisting the coroner Ben Hart told Lidcombe Coroner's Court Kabbout was shot five times with the same weapon in his head and back.

The court heard an autopsy found he was on his knees when he was shot dead.

He was found with $400 cash and two mobile phones in his pockets, suggesting he was not the victim of a robbery.

Mr Hart said police investigations found Kabbout and his wife were both having affairs.

"It came to light within the investigation that Kabbout was involved sexually with several other women," he said.

"Witnesses have described Kabbout telling them he had a problem and pointed out Shortland Brush Reserve as a place where he would go to sleep with women.

"As several of the women were married, investigators looked into whether Kabbout's murder was linked with any of his affairs."

The inquest heard some of the women at first hindered the police investigation by denying any involvement with Kabbout.

They later admitted they were having sex with him.

It heard tissue paper with Kabbout's semen and someone else's DNA — along with a condom wrapper and another five unused condoms — were found in his pockets.

The court heard Kabbout, who was a self-employed driving instructor, was also involved in a small business obtaining fake drivers' licences for customers.

But police do not consider that was a motive for his murder.

It heard his brother Fawaz suspiciously left Australia using a fake airline ticket the night of his murder.

He later died in Lebanon during surgery.

No family members were in the court on Tuesday.

Deputy state coroner Elaine Truscott has referred the case back to the NSW Police Unsolved Homicides unit.
