InnovationAus Awards: Digital Health & Health Tech Award

The last two and a half years have demonstrated the importance of constant innovations and technological developments in the health and medical sectors.

Digital health and health-tech startups have grown in prominence throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, and there’s never been more funding on offer to positive solutions improving the health of communities.

There are also ongoing concerns for ageing, child mortality, pandemics and the impact of poverty and racial discrimination on access to healthcare, and technology often offers the solution to this.

The InnovationAus 2022 Award for Excellence in Digital Health & Health Tech celebrates digital health platforms and related technological innovations such as devices, diagnostics and therapeutics and MedTech and BioTech innovation.

The InnovationAus Awards for Excellence winners and finalists will be celebrated at a black-tie gala dinner at The Cutaway at Barangaroo in Sydney on November 17.

Australia has embraced digital health tech in the wake of the pandemic, such as through the explosion in popularity and use of telehealth medicine, which is also helping to bridge the regional divide in Australia in terms of healthcare.

EpiWatch aims to prevent the next pandemic using artificial intelligence. A collaboration between the UNSW and the Kirby Institute, the project has received a Medical Research Future Fund Frontiers Stage 1 grant to develop its epidemic observatory into a fully automated intelligent system with full language and GIS capability.

The EpiWatch Global Eye tool monitors signals from around the world, including news casts, social platforms and medical reporting.

4eyes Vision can deliver an eye test and glasses within just 25 minutes, helping to address the significant issue that one billion people around the world are living with impaired vision because they can’t access affordable glasses.

This company provides on-the-spot accessible eye testing through its mobile testing device kit, including a patented wheel and immediate supply of frames and lenses.

iiShield was launched to address the problem surrounding kidney transplants, with one in four transplants failing within five years, leading to the patient returning to dialysis for treatment.

The firm aims to address the unmet need to increase the available time for transplant surgery through its innovative kidney protective jacket, the kidney pyjamas.

These PJs are single-use, cost-effective medical devices providing a surgical environment which fosters improved short and long-term transplant outcomes.

Sleeptite’s REMi pioneers world-first “nearable” technology that can continuously monitor the presence, position and posture of an aged care resident across a whole night.

This helps the aged care workforce to prevent falls and monitor aged care residents throughout the night. Sleeptite provides wider sleep innovations for the aged care sector.
