Marcin Zaba, an investment association at Surrey-based Grallo, explains why the business should win the innovation in funding category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition.
Grallo is the perfect example of a lean startup. They developed their technology on a shoestring with limited investment, and have successfully proven their business model by operating in India. So much so that their revenue has already tripled year on year, having secured £130k in sales.
When they set out to raise their seed round of funding to help build the team and enter the UK market, Grallo quickly attracted the investment of top tier angel, Mark Davies, co-founder of Betfair. Mark led the SyndicateRoom round, and the company raised £150,000 in four hours.
All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
