Gunman fires 'stray' bullet at innocent person's house during car chase through Manchester

A reckless gunman fired a bullet which which struck a house window during a car chase, the M.E.N. has learned.

Fortunately the 'stray' shot didn't hit anyone.

The shot appears to have been fired during a car chase through the streets of south Manchester on Friday night.

Police received reports of a car chase through the streets and shots being fired around Birchfields Road in Fallowfield.

But when officers went to the scene they found no evidence of any shooting.

The following morning, a resident at a house in Westray Road found a bullet lodged in the front window.

The householder made an online report to police at 11.50am and officers went to the scene. They found the damaged window and a bullet.

No-one was hurt. An investigation is underway.

Detectives believe the householder concerned is an entirely innocent victim of a 'stray' bullet which had been fired during the street chase the evening before.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police received a report through the online reporting system at 11.51 (on Saturday) of damage to a property in Westray Road.

"There was a report of potential damage to the property from gunshots.

"No arrests have been made, the scene has been closed and the road reopened. An investigation is ongoing."

The shooting is part of a recent spike in serious violence in south Manchester, particularly Moss Side.

A gunman blasted Cheriff Tall, 21, and Abayomi Ajose, 36, in the head at the rowdy lockdown party in a car park off Caythorpe Street just before 1am on June 21.

At around 7.15pm on Sunday July 26, police were called to Henbury Street in Moss Side, Manchester, after they received reports of a disturbance. Mohamoud Mohamed, 17, died at the scene.

Daneaco Reid, 19, of Moss Side has been charged with murder.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call GMP on 101 or people can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
