Injury Update: DeMarcus Cousins is active for Game 1 of NBA Finals

When DeMarcus Cousins went down with a torn quad in the second game of these playoffs, there were questions about whether he’d be ready to play by the start of next season, and any thoughts about him returning this postseason seemed like a longshot, at the very least.

However, here we are, the morning of Game 1 of the NBA Finals and it was announced that Cousins is active for the start of the Finals. There is no word yet on whether he’s going to start or how many minutes he’s going to play, but another healthy body against a very good Toronto Raptors team is excellent news for the Warriors.

Cousins returned to basketball after his torn Achilles in late January and had begun to turn the corner late in the season. Cousins had some big games down the stretch against the Rockets and Nuggets — the two teams many thought would challenge the Warriors for the Western Conference title.

However, his torn quad in Game 2 against the Los Angeles Clippers stripped away everything he had worked for and left more questions about his future — especially his earning potential — than it left answers.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals tips off at 6 p.m. PST on ABC.
