Injury Report: Terry McLaurin, Antonio Gibson, Alex Smith DNP; Taylor Heinicke takes 1st-team reps

It’s still early in the week, and a lot can change between now and Sunday night, just remember that.

With that being said, things looked a bit grim for the Washington Football Team on Wednesday at practice, with WR Terry McLaurin unable to participate in team drills, and QB Alex Smith limited once again. McLaurin has been dealing with an ankle injury that held him out of last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers, and he was seen off to the side doing agility work on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Smith continues to work back from a calf strain he suffered a couple of weeks ago. If Smith is unable to play on Sunday, it will be backup QB Taylor Heinicke who gets the start. Heinicke took the first-team reps on Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean that Smith will for sure be held out on Sunday.

We also saw RB Antonio Gibson as a non-participant in practice, which is not unexpected, considering he has been dealing with a turf toe injury for a couple weeks, and just came off of a big workload on Sunday. Gibson looked good, but with an injury like that there is always a high risk of a setback. We will continue to monitor him throughout the week, but that situation seems to be headed in the right direction.
