Injury report following fourth day of Chiefs training camp

The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped their fourth training camp practice of 2019 on Tuesday.

Cornerback Bashaud Breeland returned to practice today after suffering a thumb laceration early in training camp. He had protective gear on the hand with the thumb injury.

It was eventful on the injury front briefly during today’s practice, but it turns out to be nothing of concern. There was a collision between Tyreek Hill and the recently-returned Breeland during team drills. It was later reported and announced by the team that Hill left practice with a quad contusion and it isn’t thought to be anything serious.

As we expected there was a big group of players in the trainers tent today. Here’s the complete list of players that didn’t practice:

  • DE Tim Ward – NFI
  • LB Darius Harris – NFI
  • RT Mitchell Schwartz – Back spasms
  • WR Gehrig Dieter – Back spasms
  • S Jordan Lucas – Hamstring
  • RB Damien Williams – Hamstring
  • RB Marcus Marshall – Groin

The good news is that none of these injuries are expected to be serious, the Chiefs are just being cautious with injuries that can linger if not treated properly. In fact there was some confirmation from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport earlier that the injury to Schwartz isn’t considered to be a big deal. But he used a phrase that Chiefs fans grew to despise last season after Eric Berry’s situation.

The Chiefs have yet to provide an update on CB Keith Reaser, who was believed to have torn an Achilles during Monday’s practice. He, of course, was not at practice today.

Really, today turned out to be a pretty good day as far as new injuries are concerned. Obviously, it’d be great to have a completely injury free practice, but those are fairly rare during the course of training camp.
