Injury report following 14th day of Chiefs training camp

The Kansas City Chiefs have just one more practice left before a record-setting training camp is in the books.

The Chiefs got one player back for practice today, but two new players sat out. D’Montre Wade returned to practice after dealing with a knee contusion. That’s good news for him as he’s in a position battle to land a key backup role. Herb Miller stepped in for him yesterday, but now Wade is back with the second team.

After some concerns yesterday late in practice, it appears there was nothing seriously wrong with TE Deon Yelder. There were a few other players who didn’t practice today who were not on the injury report yesterday.

Here’s a look at all the players who didn’t practice today:

  • DE Tim Ward – NFI
  • LB Darius Harris – NFI
  • WR Gehrig Dieter – Back
  • WR Davon Grayson – Knee
  • TE John Lovett – Shoulder
  • WR Sammy Watkins – Illness
  • CB Michael Hunter – Groin
  • DE Frank Clark – Illness

Clark missed the second consecutive practice with an illness, but today he was out there helping coach up the defensive line and working on the sidelines. The Chiefs are very clearly protecting their investment in Clark and I’m OK with them being cautious with him.

Alex Okafor participated in 11-on-11 practice for the first time in a while. He has been dealing with a hip injury that has limited him to individual work for several practices. He played with the second-team defense.

Watkins missed practice with what the Chiefs described as an illness. Some thought he might have an issue with his hand, but perhaps he’s just getting a rest day.

Hunter, who had an interception late in preseason Week 1 against the Bengals, is dealing with a groin injury. He’s a long shot to make the roster, but he definitely has a chance to show out and earn an opportunity somewhere else. Hopefully, this is only a minor groin injury for him.

The Chiefs will be back for 9:15 a.m. practice tomorrow as they wrap things up for training camp.
