Injury latest on Bolton's Ricardo Santos, Dapo Afolayan & Kyle Dempsey ahead of Sheffield Wednesday

Bolton Wanderers will be without injured trio Ricardo Santos, Dapo Afolayan and Kyle Dempsey against Sheffield Wednesday this Saturday and are waiting to learn the outcome of scans to see if any of the three players will be able to take to the pitch again this season.

Defender Santos, attacker Afolayan and midfielder Dempsey all came off in the midweek draw at the University of Bolton Stadium against Portsmouth for Wanderers.

Santos did not re-emerge after the break and was replaced by Will Aimson, while Afolayan and Dempsey both came off in the second half, with all three players suffering the same problem.

The trio have all been assessed ahead of this Saturday's clash against the Owls.

And Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has confirmed that all three players will be out of this Saturday's game, he is hopeful that Afolayan and Dempsey could be back before the end of the campaign, but is not expecting to see Santos again this campaign pending the outcome of scans.

He said: “We’re waiting on the results of scans but Dapo, Kyle and Ricardo all injured their hamstrings and will all miss Saturday.

"On top of that, we’ve got one or two others that are carrying knocks and niggles and also some illness in camp so back to scraping the barrel.

"We will expect the reports to come through by close of play tonight. If I was to have a stab in the dark and from listening to the physios, I would say Kyle and Dapo have a chance of playing again this season but Rico doesn’t.

"When you get four or five injuries in one game and mostly to key personnel, and then illness to key personnel as well, there are not many squads that can cope with that. As strong as we feel ours is, we just cannot cope with the level of players who are missing this week."

Kieran Lee is set to miss a reunion with his former club over the weekend, too, due to still having some soreness in his heel following an operation to remove a spur.

Evatt added: "Kieran Lee is still missing. He has still got some soreness in the heel. We have got some illness in the camp and one or two others have knocks and niggles that we are having to manage as well.

"All of a sudden we are very light again but that is football. It has been one of those seasons but we are not going to sulk or moan about it. We just need to get our head down and perform as best we can."
