Injury forces Livingston cyclist Josh Quigley to abandon world record challenge

Livingston cyclist Josh Quigley was forced to pull out of his world record bid for the greatest distance cycled in a week due to injury.

The 28-year-old had hoped to break the previous record of 2177 miles, but a knee injury sustained on day four forced him to call it quits the following day with 1215 miles racked up.

Josh had been attempting to cycle an 80-mile lap between Aberdeen and the Cairngorms four times per day but pulled out a few hours into the fifth day.

The world record attempt came just three months after he was involved in a 40mph accident whilst training in Dubai in which he fractured his spine and pelvis in two places, as well as breaking his elbow, shoulder and four ribs.

Just two years ago, Josh was hit by a car in a near-fatal 70mph accident during his round-the-world cycling challenge but recovered to set the North Coast 500 record as the quickest to cycle that route.

The world record attempt was raising money for Arthritis Action after he was diagnosed with the condition.
