Injury concern for Chelsea as N'Golo Kante drops out of France team vs Iceland

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante has struggled with injuries so far this season, the Frenchman has played in just four of the Blues' opening eight league games this campaign.

However, it looked as though he was over the problems after playing the full 90 minutes of the Premier League win over Southampton, a game in which he scored Chelsea's third goal in the 4-1 win.

The midfielder was included in Didier Deschamps France squad for their European qualifiers against Iceland and Turkey, and was originally named in the starting 11 for Friday night's encounter with Iceland.

But, in what is concerning for Frank Lampard, Kante was withdrawn from the teamsheet having completed the warm up for the game.

A tweet from France's national team account simply read.

"Moussa Sissoko will start the match instead of N'Golo Kante."

The reason for the withdrawal is still not clear, however, given his struggles with injuries this season, Lampard will be hoping that it is just a precautionary measure.

Kante has proved himself to be one of the most influential players in the Premier League since his arrival in the summer of 2015. The Frenchman won his first Premier League title in his debut season with Leicester, before repeating the feat with Chelsea the following year.

The 28-year-old played through the pain barrier to help Chelsea lift the Europa League title at the end of last season.

The extent of the problem that forced Kante to withdraw from the team will become clearer over the following hours and days.
