Injury blow for Tottenham ace as midfielder makes return - How Spurs' loan stars are getting on

Four players returned to Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the month following disappointing loan spells away from the club.

Jack Clarke was expected to impress once again for Leeds United in the Championship but only made three appearances in all competitions for Marcelo Bielsa's side, with Cameron Carter-Vickers also heading back to the capital after losing his place in the Stoke City squad following Michael O'Neill's appointment as manager.

Kazaiah Sterling and Anthony Georgiou also returned after limited gametime at Doncaster Rovers and Ipswich Town respectively.

The end of the quartet's loan spells means that only three players remain out on loan as things stand at present.

However, you would expect the returning youngsters to move on again as they look to gain some valuable experience of playing first-team football.

Here we take a look at how the trio out on loan are faring at present.

Luke Amos

The Spurs midfielder was back in the QPR starting XI last Saturday after missing out completely the previous weekend against Swansea City in the FA Cup.

The west London club made the trip across to capital to take on in-form Brentford at Griffin Park but Amos couldn't help his team make it three wins on the spin as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat.

Amos, who played the full 90 minutes against the Bees, has now made 20 appearances for his loan club this season after only featuring in one game last term after rupturing the ACL in his left knee in a Premier League 2 game.

Jack Roles

Roles had to watch on from the sidelines last weekend as Cambridge United lost 2-0 away at Exeter City.

Fresh from signing new terms with the League Two side until the end of the season after his previous deal had expired following the defeat against Macclesfield, his absence at St James Park wasn't actually down to a hamstring injury as some first feared.

"It’s not a hamstring, but because of the load certain parts of his body around the hips and glutes just tighten up a little bit," manager Colin Calderwood told Cambridgeshire Live ahead of the game.

"In effect it’s what happened earlier in the season, but it feels better than it did last time it happened."

Roles will be hoping he is back to full fitness for Saturday's home clash against bottom side Stevenage.

George Marsh

One man who was in League Two action last weekend was Marsh.

Catching the eye in the first half of the season at Leyton Orient, the 21-year-old extended his stay at Brisbane Road until the end of the campaign at the start of the month.

The midfielder played 81 minutes in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Grimsby and he will be in contention to start again this weekend when they travel to Port Vale.

Marsh has made 19 appearances for Orient so far this season.
