Injured pilot rushed to hospital after crash-landing light aircraft into field

A pilot has been hospitalised after their plane came crashing down in a field this afternoon.

Paramedics rushed to the Old Sarum Airfield in Wiltshire after the light aircraft smashed into the ground.

The pilot, who was flying solo, had crashed the plane on approach to the airfield and was out of the aircraft when 999 crews arrived, Somerset Live reported.

The crash happened at around 2.25pm and saw the plane end up on its nose on the ground.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended the scene alongside police, ambulance crews and the fire service.

The pilot was taken to hospital after suffering minor injuries leaving the Air Accidents Investigation Branch to look into the incident.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "We received a call at 2.45pm reporting that a light aircraft had crashed at Old Sarum airfield.

"Emergency services, including police, attended but only one report of minor injury. It will be passed to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch."

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 2:24pm today to reports of a light aircraft crash at Old Sarum airfield.

"Two crews from Salisbury and one from Blandford were mobilised to the scene. On arrival, crews found one light aircraft which has crashed on approach to the airfield.

"There was one casualty, the pilot who was already out of the aircraft and in care of the ambulance service. The stop message came in at 3:25pm."
