Injured pilot pulled from crashed plane split second before train ploughs into wreckage

A pilot was pulled from his crashed plane by police only seconds before the wreckage was smashed by an oncoming train.

On Sunday, dramatic footage caught on body cams showed the quickly unfolding events in Pacoima, a suburb of northern Los Angeles.

The pilot crash-landed their small aircraft onto the railway track and the footage shows them dazed and confused, with their face covered in blood.

The plane had come to a stop perfectly on the train tracks and emergency services had quickly been called to the area.

The railway tracks were adjacent to Whiteman Airport, a general aviation airfield in the area.

Several police officers from the Foothill Division worked together to free the man from the wreckage, whilst others watched the oncoming train.

Just in the nick of time they were able to pull him out of the plane, and drag him away.

In the footage, one officer can be heard shouting: “Go! Go! Go!” as barely seconds after the man’s free, the train sounds its horn and smashes through what’s left of the aircraft.

The pilot, who was not named, was transported to hospital in an unknown condition according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

What was left of the plane remained on and around the railway tracks for hours following the crash.

Another video shows the terrifying moment unfolding from another angle as pedestrians look on in horror.

A small crowd of pedestrians watch in horror as the police officers get the man away in time.

But when the train smashes through the plane, the debris sent flying nearly hits them and they are forced to dive for cover.
