Injured person hospitalised after multiple collisions cause havoc for drivers both ways on the M50

Motorists have been experiencing serious delays in both directions on Thursday morning after emergency services were forced to deal with multiple car collisions on the motorway.

The M50 was blocked on both sides as delays stretched out to as far as 40 minutes both north and southbound.

The most serious of the collisions was a multiple car crash on the M50 northbound.

Dublin Fire Brigade said that they dealt with a roll-over RTC on the motorway Northbound at Junction 6.

One person was treated at the scene and was transported to Hospital with minor injures.

Firefighters and paramedics from Finglas, Blanchardstown and Phibsborough attended the scene and recovery services removed the vehicles.

Commuters were advised to refrain from rubbernecking while passing the collisions.

The crash was alongside an earlier collision that took place at Junction 5 Finglas Northbound.

The cars were blocking the left lane and both off ramp lanes making traffic very heavy as a result.

Earlier in the morning, portaloos loose on the motorway were causing havoc for drivers as they tried to negotiate their way around the obstacle they were causing.

The portable toilets fell off the back of a trailer as they were making their way to the Westlink Bridge northbound.

Live Drive smartly said that the new features of the M50 were "not to be confused with a new motorway services stop".

As well as this, an earlier crash on the motorway caused up to 25 minute delays in peak commuter time but was cleared shortly before 9am
