Injured Martin to rest up for three months

AFL star Dustin Martin has been told he's not allowed to engage in contact work for three months. (AAP)

Richmond star Dustin Martin is still in hospital and won't be able to do any contact work for three months after suffering a serious kidney injury.

Martin suffered a lacerated kidney after coming off second best in a collision with Brisbane enforcer Mitch Robinson in Richmond's 20-point win last Friday.

The Tigers have already ruled Martin out for the rest of the season, with medical staff since advising the triple Norm Smith medallist to avoid any contact work for at least three months.

"He is still up there on the Gold Coast in hospital," Richmond's physical performance manager Peter Burge said.

"He will probably be released in a couple of days once the specialists give him the all clear and we are looking forward to having him back around the club again soon.

"All the guys and staff have been really good and sending him get-well messages and all those sorts of things. He is really appreciative of that, and we look forward to seeing him soon."

Kamdyn McIntosh is set to miss one or two weeks with a hamstring injury, but Shane Edwards (ankle) is expected to return for the grand final rematch against Geelong this week.
