A man had fallen into the water and suffered back injuries meaning he was unable to get out. Police, paramedics and fire crews were all pictured at the scene close to where the road becomes Great Ancoats Street.

The man, who was sat in the water when crews arrived, was taken to safety before being assessed by paramedics. It is unclear if he was taken to hospital.
