Injured London Bridge survivors out of hospital and 'recovering well'

The three injured survivors of the London Bridge terror attack have been discharged from hospital and are “recovering well”, medics said today.

They were hurt when convicted terrorist Usman Khan, 28, went on the rampage with two knives last Friday, killing Cambridge graduates Jack Merritt, 25, and Saskia Jones, 23.

Dr Vin Diwakar, London NHS medical director, said: “I would like to thank all our wonderful NHS staff for the care given to those who were hurt. Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of those who sadly lost their lives and all those who have been impacted.”

Khan, 28, was tackled by brave members of the public, including fellow ex-offenders attending a prisoner rehabilitation event at Fishmongers’ Hall, before he was shot dead by police.

It emerged today that one man seen attempting to subdue him with a fire extinguisher was convicted killer John Crilly, who had been mentored by Mr Merritt.

Mr Crilly, 48, served 13 years of a life sentence over the death of a pensioner during a burglary in Manchester.

His murder conviction was quashed after a Supreme Court ruling on joint enterprise law and he was released last year.

The court ruled the law on joint enterprise — with defendants prosecuted for murder even if they did not strike the fatal blow — had been misinterpreted in his case.
