Jan. 20--An injured hiker was airlifted from a trail in Tarzana on Monday afternoon, fire officials said.
The hiker, a 25-year-old woman, was hoisted out of rugged terrain with a knee injury, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott.
She was taken to a hospital in serious condition, Scott said, but she was conscious and responsive.
It's still unclear how the woman injured her knee, or whether she was hiking alone or off-trail.
The woman was found near the Temescal Fire Road in the Santa Monica Mountains. She had hiked there from the south end of Reseda, officials said.
According to Scott, the woman called 911 on her cellphone just before 3 p.m. to report her injury.
A helicopter crew located the woman and lowered a paramedic down to assess and assist her. When it was determined that she wouldn't be able to walk out of the area, rescuers airlifted her out.
No other details were immediately available about her condition.
