Injured former Newcastle United starlet blown away by support as Ayrshire side make cash pledge

Beith Juniors dug deep to boost a cash fund for an injured footballer after taking part in a benefit match on Saturday.

The North Ayrshire outfit played Glasgow Perthshire at Keppoch Park with all proceeds from the gate going to Shire star Steven Logan who is recovering from a broken leg.

Beith covered the referee fees and handed over a cheque for £200 to boost the total raised on the day to just under £600.

Midfielder Logan, 24, - a product of Newcastle United's youth system - said he was blown away by the turnout on the day and the support from both clubs.

He said: "I would like to say a massive thank you to two clubs, both sets of fans and the players after receiving the donations from Saturdays match. I’m over the moon with the amount of support received and everyones generosity. I can’t thank you all enough."

A spokesman for Glasgow Perthshire added: "Well done to everyone who attended and participated in the fundraising.

"We always take an interest in Beith fixtures with our former star man Paul Frize there but after this even more so. Thanks to all again at Bellsdale Park. Steven's  family were also taken a back by the generosity from everyone."

Logan suffered the injury in a midweek clash against Bellshill last week and is expected to be out of action for at least three months.

Glasgow Perthshire have set up a GoFund me page which is still taking donations at http://bit.ly/31uUz0d
