Injured cyclist taken to hospital following smash with car in Newton Heath

A cyclist was taken to hospital after a smash with a car in Newton Heath.

Emergency services attended Grimshaw Lane, Oldham Road following a report of a collision at 12.27am this morning (June 12).

The cyclist suffered injuries that are not believed to be life threatening, police have said.

The incident led to the closure of the road.

In a tweet, MancTraffic said: "Collision involving a cyclist on the A62 Oldham Rd, Newton Heath o/b between Monsall Rd and the Holiday Inn."

In an update the traffic-monitoring account said Oldham Road was closed from Monsall Road to Fletcher Street. It was later reopened at around 4am.

No other injuries were reported by Greater Manchester Police.

A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 12.27am this morning (12 June) police were called to a report of a road traffic collision between a vehicle and a cyclist on Grimshaw Lane, Oldham Road, Manchester.

"Emergency services attended and the cyclist was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening. No other injuries were reported.

"The road was closed while recovery of the vehicle took place."
