Inheritance by Malinda Lo - review

Malinda Lo, Inheritance

When I received this book, I had no idea what it was going to be about. I didn't really know what genre it was a part of, or what age group it was specifically pointed at. All I knew was that I adored Malinda Lo, and if this book was written anything like Lo's creepily beautiful retelling of Cinderella, Ash, I would be all over this book like limited edition copies of Vampire Academy in Waterstones (basically super-hyper and obsessive, but in a great way).

Inheritance is the sequel to Adaptation, a book where you don't really know what's going on until it smacks you right in the face. I haven't read Adaptation, but this didn't stop me from falling into the thrilling story of Inheritance and slowly but surely falling in love with it (*strokes cover lovingly*).

This book is super slow at the start, but like many amazing books, you have to give it a chance. 110 pages in, I was hooked and ready for some people to get smacked in the face and others to drop everything and make out. Inheritance is a unique take on the unknown, where minds are more powerful than actions and secrets are hiding at every corner. Everything you think you know is wrong, and every relationship you honour gets turned upside down. The ideas were fresh and I'm seriously still thinking about how Malinda came up with such a crazy idea which worked so magically.

This book may be the weirdest thing I've ever come across (except from the Pickle King by Rebecca Promitzer, the perfect book for Halloween by the way) but also the most thrilling and seriously OMG NO NO NO WHY THAT'S NOT RIGHT YOU STOP RIGHT NOW filled novel of the year so far.

If you like aliens, corrupted governments and girl X girl (if you don't really like the last bit, still give this book a go; the relationships and struggles are all very true to real life circumstances and honestly incredible) this is the novel for you. I really enjoyed it, but I need to know if there's a third book, and if there is I need my hands on it. Right now please *sweats nervously*
