Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Danny Ings will miss Wednesday’s showdown with Manchester City at Villa Park (8.15pm kick-off) due to a recurrence of an injury.
The 29-year-old was an unused substitute during the 2-1 win at Crystal Palace at the weekend, and whilst the setback isn’t believed to be too severe he will miss the visit of the champions.
Gerrard confirmed that Keinan Davis - who has been struggling with injury recently will come back into contention.
Douglas Luiz also made his return from a spell on the sidelines during the win at Selhurst Park, while Morgan Sanson was also on the bench.
However, wide players Bertrand Traore and Trezeguet remain unavailable through injury.

What Gerrard said: “Danny, unfortunately, won’t make Man City. We were protecting him at the weekend. He’s had a little bit of a setback - a previous injury – nothing major, but we had to put the brakes on for a few days at the least.”
“So there’ll be one change in the squad - Keinan Davis will replace Danny Ings, the rest is as it was the last time.”
