Infrastructure work for 116-acre employment site in Bridgend completed

Infrastructure work for a major employment site in Bridgend has been completed.

The work at the Welsh Government-owned Brocastle site, which extends to 116 site next to now closed Ford engine plant, included the construction of new roads and provision of utilities to serve nine plateaux.

There is outline planning consent for up to 770,000 sq ft of floor space with the Welsh Government seeking private sector developers. Property advisory firm JLL is marketing the site.

Work undertaken was funded withy more than £10m from the Welsh Government, including around £6.2m awarded through the European Regional Development Fund.

The Welsh Government will also be investing in an active travel route, with works scheduled to begin in spring next year.

Minister for Economy, Vaughan Gething said: “We have ambitious plans to create new jobs across Wales, providing good new work opportunities for people in our communities.

“I’m pleased the work to develop a new strategic employment site at Brocastle has now been completed. The Welsh Government has made a significant investment to develop the site, in order to offer investment ready opportunities to businesses – which is in line with our Property Delivery Plan.

“I am really encouraged by the level of interest shown so far. We hope this will lead to the creation of many new jobs.”

Heather Lawrence, industrial and logistics director at JLL, said:“Brocastle offers an exciting opportunity for occupiers to develop facilities in a strategic location with access to a skilled workforce and great communication links.

“The work which the Welsh Government have completed on the site is significant and is the enabler to ensure that South Wales has a competitive offering for the market. We hope this site will be one of many that Welsh Government can provide the necessary support to bring forward."

The site has been earmarked for a 500 job factory from Ineos Automotive to assembly its new Grenadier 4x4 vehicle.

However, the 250,000 sq ft new factory project was shelved last year after it decided to move the project to France.
