InfraStrata agrees overseas partnership to target UK floating wind projects

InfraStrata has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work with Spanish Navantia and Windar Renovables to target UK floating wind projects.

Harland & Wolff, which owns InfraStrata, acquired the two BiFab yards at Methil and Lewis for £850,000 earlier this year.

The new collaboration will use of InfraStrata’s shipyard and fabrication facilities.

Harland & Wolff will be able to use Navantia’s experience and adopt the company's technologies to become a more competitive proposition to wind farm developers, as it seeks to work with UK companies to develop wind farms off UK shores.

The joint venture between Navantia and Windar has completed more than 100 wind turbine jacket foundation structures for various clients over the last five years.

The partners are currently fabricating and assembling 62 jackets for Iberdrola’s St Brieuc offshore wind farm, after having recently completed five floating hull foundations for the Kincardine Floating Offshore wind farm.

It is anticipated that the parties will come together to bid and execute on numerous wind farm projects, with work share arrangements between them based on their respective yard capacities and availability, material handling capabilities and quayside load-out capacities.

John Wood, chief executive at Harland & Wolff, said: “Through this strategic partnership, we will be able to strengthen the scale and footprint of a combined multi-site offering which will de-risk customer schedules, drive more innovation and efficiency and enable projects to be monetised quicker.”
