Report: Informal discussions ongoing about loaning NFL players to AAF

The new Alliance of American Football kicked off this winter amid a lot of fanfare. With live broadcasts on Saturdays and Sundays through April, professional football fans have something to watch during the NFL’s offseason.

The NFL has been supportive of the new league, promoting it and even embracing the chance to improve its own rules following the changes made by the AAF.

The two leagues could have even more in common if AAF co-founder and head of football Bill Polian has his way.

Per USA TODAY, Polian said Wednesday there have been informal discussions about the possibility of NFL teams “loaning” younger players to AAF teams.

In essence, the AAF would act as a minor league for the NFL, offering the less experienced players a chance at more practice and playing time.

“Those discussions will continue but whether they bear fruit remains to be seen,” Polian said via USA TODAY.  “There are lots of procedural hurdles that have to be crossed before you could make that happen.”
