Influential Liverpool midfielder ruled out for season in boost for Bristol Rovers against Doncaster Rovers

Doncaster Rovers will be without influential midfielder Herbie Kane for Tuesday night's game against Bristol Rovers.

Kane, on loan from Liverpool, has been in sensational form for Grant McCann's side this season, and attracted interest from Championship clubs in January.

He started his career at the Gas' fierce rivals Bristol City and could not resist the urge to taunt the Gas on social media following Doncaster's 4-0 win at the Memorial Stadium in December.

However, he is set to miss Tuesday night - and potentially the rest of the season - due to a groin injury.

Manager McCann confirmed the news, and also ruled out fellow midfielder Ben Whiteman for the next three to four weeks.

"Herbie will be out for about six weeks, Ben will be three to four weeks," he said to Doncaster Free Press.

"Herbie has done a different part of his groin. He’s got a 10cm tear in his groin.

"Ben has got some damage on his ankle from a tackle against Barnsley which he couldn’t shake off.

"We had him scanned and he’s got a grade two ligament tear."

Doncaster were without the duo for Saturday's 4-0 hammering against Luton Town, but McCann refused to put the heavy defeat down to their absence.

He said: "It’s not ideal but the result was not down to Ben and Herbie not being here.

"We just weren’t at the races and sometimes you’ve just got to put your hands up.

"I was hoping it was going to have the opposite effect. People have been waiting for their chance. They came in today and I need people to take their chance.

"Only the boys will know when they analyse their performance and realise they’ve not taken it.

"It’s up to me to analyse and look at and pick the right team for Bristol Rovers on Tuesday."
