Influential data analyst offers Championship prediction - where Bristol City, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest finish

Bristol City stand a 28 per cent chance of making the play-offs.

It is early days in the Championship, but three wins in a week has significantly boosted the Robins' chances.

That is according to Nate Silver, whose FiveThirtyEight website has offered the probabilities of different Championship outcomes this season.

Silver is best known for correctly calling the outcomes of the 2008 and 2012 US elections and was named one of the world's most 100 influential people by Time Magazine.

Yet his background is in sports data, and his model is optimistic for the Robins.

Predicting a fifth-placed finish for City, the stats also says the Robins have a 16 per cent chance of winning promotion and a four per cent chance of lifting the title.

Elsewhere, Leeds are favourites, with a 40 per cent chance of winning the title and a 67 per cent chance of going up.

Fulham are also tipped, with a 26 per cent probability of being crowned champions and a 56 per cent chance of winning promotion.

West Brom (31), Swansea City (28), Brentford (25) and Nottingham Forest (24) all have favourable chances of making the play-offs, with the Baggies also having a 21 per cent opportunity of winning promotion.
