Inflatable unicorn, WKD bottles and speakers seized from teens at deadly off-limits quarry

Police seized an inflatable unicorn, WKD bottles, speakers and trainers from youths at a deadly off-limits quarry.

Officers issued a dispersal order for East Quarry in Appley Bridge, near Wigan, over the weekend.

It came following concerns that people were attending the quarry and 'putting themselves at serious risk and causing antisocial behaviour for local residents'.

The water-filled quarry is a regular attraction for people during hot summer days.

But it is on private land and those gaining access are breaking the law - and putting their welfare at risk.

This is despite repeated warnings from the authorities for people to stay away from the quarry, which has claimed the lives of two teenagers since 1999.

The dispersal zone gave Lancashire Constabulary the power to ask people to leave the area and confiscate anything they believe could be used to cause antisocial behaviour, Lancs Live reports.

Ormskirk and Rural West Lancs Police posted a picture of the items they confiscated from teenagers at the site over the weekend, including WKDs, trainers, towels, speakers and an inflatable unicorn.

A force spokesperson said it came after a patrol car was damaged and several people were searched under the misuse of drugs act.

They said: "If anyone's teenagers have returned home without their belongings today, this pile is what we have found or seized from people breaching the dispersal notice at Appley Bridge.

"If you would like to attend Ormskirk Police Station to collect their property, ask for the on duty Neighbourhood supervisor, we will just need proof of ID and a discussion with your child about the damage caused to the Police car.

"During today's shift we have issued a large number of dispersal notices, several parking tickets for people parking illegally around the quarry and searched numerous people under the misuse of drugs act.
