Security forces foiled a major infiltration on the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir's Kupwara, while two militants were killed in south Kashmir's Anantnag on Tuesday.

An Army spokesman said an intruders group, comprising 6 to 8 armed men, was challenged at Parkian Gali along the LoC, but it fled away taking advantage of the darkness.

“The Army spotted suspicious movement of 6-8 persons on June 29-30 in two groups in Parkian Gali Sector, Kupwara, along the LoC. Own troops challenged the infiltrators with fire. Infiltrators ran away taking help of darkness," said the spokesman.

In south Kashmir, the police said two militants were killed in Waghama area of Anantnag.

“During a search operation, trapped terrorists were provided the opportunity to surrender. However, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party. In the ensuing encounter, two unidentified terrorists were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter”, the police said.

Their identification and affiliation were being ascertained. “They were involved in the killing of one policeman last year and killings of two CRPF personnel and one minor boy recently”, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said.

The bodies of the slain terrorists were sent to Handwara for their last rites. “In case, any family claims the killed terrorists to be their kith or kin, they can come forward for their identification and participation in last rites at Handwara”, the police said.
