Fire on East Lothian industrial estate as flames and smoke seen for miles

Firefighters raced to a fierce blaze on an industrial estate last night after residents raised the alarm.

Shortly before 11pm on Thursday, July 15 smoke was seen billowing from a building on fire at Steading View, Tranent.

Four fire appliances tackled the inferno and luckily no-one was hurt.

The fire service confirmed that the blaze affected a number of metal containers within the building.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 22.59pm on Thursday, July 15 to reports of a building on fire at Steading View, Tranent.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a number of metal containers within a building.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Tranent locals took to social media to wish their best to anyone affected by the fire.

One person said: “That’s awful, hope no-one is hurt.”

Another added: “Hope everyone us safe…knew it must have been bad.”
