An infant was seriously injured in a crash that hurt two others Monday evening on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Officers were called for a two-vehicle crash at 5 p.m. in the outbound express lanes near 33rd Street, Illinois State Police said.

The baby, who was not in a carseat at the time, was taken to a hospital in serious condition, police said.

A child and woman in the same car were transported with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. In total, the car was occupied by two adults and four children.

No one was transported from the other vehicle, which held three children and one adult, police said.

Some people involved in the crash may have left the scene to seek medical attention before authorities showed up, police said.

State police were investigating the crash.
