Homicide detectives are investigating after a six-month-old baby boy was found dead at a house in Melbourne's north-east.

Police were called to a house on Langdon Drive about 9pm on Friday night after receiving reports a child was critically injured.

"Sadly, a six-month old baby boy was located inside the house deceased," Victoria Police said in a statement.

A crime scene was established after the baby's body was found.

Ambulance services airlifted a 39-year-old woman from the scene to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

She remained in hospital under police guard early on Saturday afternoon.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this stage.
