Manchester United fans were singing Cristiano Ronaldo’s praises once again as he came up with another vital goal in Europe against Villarreal.
The Portuguese star struck once again to give his side the lead in Europe, and set them on the way for qualification to the knockout stages.
With the game looking set to meander to a goalless draw, United were suddenly presented with a golden opportunity with 12 minutes to go.
A slack pass from Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli to Etienne Capoue enabled Fred to close down the former Watford midfielder and poke the ball forward towards his team-mate.
Ronaldo spotted the onrushing keeper and coolly lifted the ball over him as, not for the first time this season, he proved to be the difference for his side in Europe.
The goal was just the latest in vital Champions League strikes this season, following on from his late winners in the home games against Villarreal and Atalanta, as well as his stoppage-time equaliser in Italy.
And United fans were quick to sing the praises of their star forward…
Ronaldo’s goal set up United for the perfect start to life without Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, following his sacking earlier this week.
Jadon Sancho also brought an end to his long wait for a first goal since joining the club as he wrapped up the win late on, giving Michael Carrick his first victory in charge.
The result ensures United’s safe passage through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, with just one remaining group stage game against Young Boys at Old Trafford.
