'Inevitable!' Bristol Rovers fans issue their verdict on Ben Garner's Mem exit

Bristol Rovers have tonight sacked manager Ben Garner following their 4-1 home defeat to Fleetwood Town.

Defeat to the Cod Army was a third loss in their last four league games, with the club's hierarchy confirming the decision to relieve Garner of his duties after the game, just under a year after succeeding Graham Coughlan as manager.

Garner leaves Rovers, who travel to the County Ground to face John Sheridan's Swindon Town next weekend, in 18th place in League One, just three points above the relegation places.

His departure from the Memorial Stadium has been met with a wave of responses from the club's supporters, with some surprised by his exit and others describing it as inevitable.

Here is a close look at how some Rovers fans, most of whom have wished Garner all the very best for the future, have reacted on Twitter following this evening's news...

In total, Garner, who has previously worked at Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion in the past, took charge of 33 games, during which time he won just six matches.

This was his first managerial role when he replaced Graham Coughlan, but his first season was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Gas, who have placed on record their thanks for Garner's efforts, have confirmed that Tommy Widdrington will take caretaker charge until the club appoints a new permanent boss.
