Richie Porte’s crash in the Paris-Nice event on Sunday took the Ineos Grenadiers rider out of the race but did not lead to any serious injuries, the Australian’s team have confirmed.
Porte crashed with 35 kilometres remaining in the first stage after Jumbo-Visma’s George Bennett swerved into the 36-year-old.
Porte’s team-mate Ben Swift said at the end of the Sunday’s action that Bennett was reacting to a discarded bottle going under his wheel.

Porte was able to resume riding after receiving treatment, but abandoned the race after covering another 20km.
“We start a man down at Paris-Nice today, but thankfully we can confirm Richie Porte suffered no fractures in his crash yesterday,” Ineos said ahead of the second stage, per Cycling Weekly.
“He’ll now head home, heal up and get ready to go again.”
Porte added: “Nothing broken but I’m out of Paris-Nice unfortunately.
“Thanks for all the messages. Feeling beat up and sore but can’t thank the team enough for getting around me.”
