Indya Moore says 'there aren't enough trans people of colour' represented in fashion industry

Pose star Indya Moore has spoken out about the lack of representation in the fashion industry, calling for greater visibility of “trans people of colour”.

Speaking to E! Live from the Red Carpet on Sunday at the Emmy Awards, the actor and model explained that “the reason there are so little [is] there is this perception that we are not important.”

“It’s more tricky to exist than it is to walk in this dress,” Moore added.

In a separate red carpet interview with Variety, Moore offered some heartfelt advice to younger members of the LGBT+ community.

"You're not alone," she said. "Don't be scared. Believe in yourself before anyone else does. The value of your life cannot be measured by any opinion of other people. I see you. We are you. You will survive."

The 24-year-old won praise for her Emmys look on social media, with fans admiring her custom Louis Vuitton gown that featured two thigh-high slits and a corset-style bodice.

“One of the most consistently well-dressed celebs,” wrote one person, while another described Moore as “truly one of the most gorgeous humans on earth”.

Moore has previously opened up about the difficulties she faced growing up regarding her identity. Speaking to Elle in May, she said her parents “over disciplined” her when she started behaving in a way that they deemed feminine.

“Because I was assigned male at birth, they expected me to be masculine or to perform the way they thought young boys should perform,” she told the publication.

“And I did not. They didn’t understand. They had never experienced what it was like to have a family member who was genderqueer.”
