Industrial inspection and testing specialist IrisNDT buys out James Fisher division

Non-destructive testing specialist IrisNDT has swooped for fellow provider James Fisher NDT in an undisclosed deal.

The Immingham-headquartered UK arm of the Canadian multinational has agreed the purchase of the division of the North West maritime giant.

Based in Deeside, Wales, it has served the aerospace, defence, automotive, petrochemical, utilities and nuclear markets since 2006, offering a wide array of field and laboratory non-destructive testing services.

It will continue to operate from a state-of-the-art 33,000 sq ft facility, that includes eight radiographic bays, and was opened by the Welsh First Minister in 2015.

Roman Kyrnyckyj, managing director of IrisNDT UK said: “We welcome James Fisher NDT, its employees and customers to the IrisNDT family. I believe James Fisher NDT to be a great fit for us and together we will become an industry leader in the North West. We are also excited about adding the component testing division and Nadcap accreditation.”

Nadcap is the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Programme, a global cooperative passport for aerospace engineering, defence and related industries.

James Fisher NDT employs around 28 people, having reduced during the Covid pandemic. It saw aerospace work nose dive, leading to a loss of almost £1 million in 2020. Revenues declined 57 per cent.

Marcel Blinde, chief executive of IrisNDT, said: “I am convinced that our new employees will have a seamless transition to IrisNDT given our shared views on safety, quality, employee training and development, and customer service.

“IrisNDT is in growth mode, and we are focused on strengthening our services portfolio in the renewable, energy, aerospace and defence markets, and will continue to evaluate attractive add-on acquisition opportunities.”
