Industrial estate worker arrested after shotgun fired during row with travellers

An industrial estate worker been arrested after a shotgun was fired during a row with travellers.

It followed reports a security guard was assaulted after confronting a group of travellers who attempted to set up camp at the Vauxhall Industrial Estate in Stockport.

The row broke out after travellers turned up at the business park off Greg Street in Reddish at about 2.20pm on Tuesday.

Following the alleged assault the dispute continued and at about 10pm that night a worker from the industrial estate is alleged to have fired a shotgun at the scene.

A 58-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting (MEN)

No-one was injured in the incident.

A 58 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and one shotgun has been recovered by police.

Det Insp Gina Brennand of GMP’s Stockport Division said: “Thankfully no one was hurt in the disturbance on Tuesday night.

"We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have information which could help us with our enquiries.”

Police patrols were stepped up in the area following the shooting.

The travellers moved on to the Tesco Express car park in Portwood and have since moved on again.
