Indore woman booked for zebra crossing jig

INDORE: Dancing on the zebra crossing at a red-light stop – ostensibly to raise traffic awareness – is going to cost an Indore girl a legal fight. A video of Shreya Kalra dancing at the busy Rasoma square, while vehicles waited at a traffic light went viral on Tuesday.

She posted the video on social media with the caption: “Please do not break the rules – a red sign means you have to stop at the signal not because I am dancing, and do wear your masks.”

The authorities were far from amused. On Wednesday, home minister Narottam Mishra ordered police to file a case against her. “Whatever her intentions, her way was wrong. I have asked the authorities to register a case against her under Motor Vehicles Act so that no one dares follow this and it doesn’t happen again,” Mishra said in Bhopal.

Indore ASP Rajesh Raghuwanshi said a case has been registered against Shreya under IPC section 290 for ‘public nuisance’. “Even if the signal was red, the girl was dancing in the middle of traffic, which is a nuisance whatever her intentions be,” said Raghuwanshi. Shreya released a video on Wednesday evening, explaining herself: “My main motive in creating the video was to make people aware that a red signal means traffic should stop and they should not cross the zebra crossing.”
