INDORE: More than 11 months have passed into Covid-19 mass vaccination drive, but only two out of eight districts in Indore division achieved 100 per cent target of first dose vaccination in adult population.
According to vaccination record of health department regional director (Indore division) office, only Indore and Jhabua districts have inoculated its targeted adult population with the first dose till December 11.
Indore has achieved 110.60% against a target of 28.07 lakh, while Jhabua 103.61% of targeted 6.47 lakh.
Remaining districts - Burhanpur, Khandwa, Dhar, Khargone, Barwani and Alirajpur - are still grappling to achieve cent per cent first dose inoculation target in adult population.
Regional director (health services) Indore division Dr Ashok Dagaria said, "The vaccine drive began on January 16 this year in a phase-wise manner. It proceeded in accordance with availability of vaccines and prioritising doses for high risk groups in metropolitan areas as per Centre policy. Owing to this, for several months, districts including, Indore and Bhopal got a major chunk from supply leading to them racing ahead against other districts in division as well as state."
Later, the supply was refocused towards Dhar, Jhabua, Alirajpur districts, which were lagging in the drive. Vaccination has now picked up pace in these districts. The division has almost covered all its adult population and the last few lakhs of around one crore population is remaining, said Dr Dagaria.
"Since last month, a mega drive is being organised every Wednesday across the state to give a boost to driving. We are hopeful that we shall complete the target on time," said Dr Dagaria.
According to records, Dhar and Khargone districts have achieved 88% of the first dose inoculation target. They are the poorest performing districts in the division.
At present, Indore division requires to administer 28.40 lakh doses in next 18 days to complete full immunisation of its targeted adult population including six lakh as first dose, show records.
