Indore’s daily corona count zero for first time

INDORE: In a big surge of hope ahead of the festive season, Indore reported zero Covid cases on Thursday – for the first time since the pandemic broke out on March 24 last year.

The district’s total Covid tally remained unchanged at 153,040 and the toll stayed at 1,391 in the late night bulletin. Dr Amit Malakar, district nodal officer for Covid, said: “It is for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic that the district reported zero cases.”

The corona curve has been at its lowest level in the past eight weeks, with daily infections remaining below five, except on two occasions when seven cases each were reported. Indore was the worst hit district in MP. But in the last two months, Covid infections have remained in control with the daily positivity rate close to zero, said Dr Malakar.

Asked for the reason for the zero count, Dr Malakar said, “The Delta variant has lost its virulence after the devastating second wave and vaccinations have also helped in a big way. The district hasn’t reported any new variant or cases of even Delta-plus, but people should remain very cautious.”

It has been over one and a half months since the last Covid death was reported in the district. Other districts of the Indore-Ujjain division have been reporting zero cases for the past month or so, except for a few occasions.
