Indore's Avesh Khan gets Team India call-up

BHOPAL: After Indore's Venkatesh Iyer made his debut in the South Africa series, another cricketer from Madhya Pradesh is ready to follow in his footsteps. Indore pacer Avesh Khan has been picked for the ODI and T20 home series against West Indies, which starts on February 6.

Avesh was selected for the series against New Zealand last year. With Jasprit Bumrah and Md Shami being rested, Avesh can fill in as he has been consistent in the IPL as well as domestic series.

Avesh, an early bloomer, made his debut in the 2014-15 season. He got into the A-List for MP in the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy, and shot into prominence in 2018-19 when he became the leading wicket-taker for MP in the Ranji season with 35 dismissals in seven matches.

In 2016, Avesh was India's leading wicket-taker in the U-19 World Cupwith 12 scalps. He made his T20 debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017, and Delhi Daredevils bought him the next year.

Avesh has 100 Ranji wickets from 27 matches, 65 wickets from 48 T20s and 17 wickets from 22 List A matches. In IPL 2021, he took 24 wickets for Delhi Capitals.

MPCA congratulated Avesh for his selection in Team India. "It is good to see that MP has produced two players who have managed to knock the doors of the Indian team. My best wishes to Avesh as he could be a good prospect for the team," said CEO, MPCA, Rohit Pandit.
