INDORE: Two-third of senior citizens of the district have eagerly taken both doses of Covid-19 vaccine to lead with maximum full immunisation coverage in all age groups till Thursday night, shows record.
The vaccination records of the health department showed as many as 67.21% of 3.01 lakh people aged above 60 had taken their both doses of Covid-19 vaccines to complete full immunisation. The full immunisation coverage in other age groups was 63.90% in 45-59 and 51.46% in 18-44.
District immunisation in charge Dr Tarun Gupta said, “There are multiple reasons behind high full immunization coverage in senior citizens group in district including less target population, early allowing of shots to this group, promptness.”
Explaining about it, Dr Gupta said, “Senior citizens aged above 60 were allowed to take their shots of Covid-19 vaccine from march in the mass drive, which began on January 16 with inoculation of health care workers. It was opened for frontline workers on February 8.”
The other age group was later allowed in a phase wise manner. The full immunisation coverage is accordingly following the trend of opening of mass drive for different categories, said Dr Gupta.
The lactating and pregnant females, which were in the 18-44 age group, were allowed to take Covid-19 vaccines only two months back. This age group also has the maximum population in the district. So, full immunisation coverage is lowest in it, said Dr Gupta.
“The working population is mostly in the age group of 18-59. October and November are months of festivals and people are engaged in their work leading to slowing down of drive and creating a high number of due and overdue population in district”, added Dr Gupta.
The coverage is further expected to improve in the post festival season, added Dr Gupta.
