Indore cops want NSA on 4 held for protest at police station

INDORE: Police on Wednesday recommended National Security Act (NSA) against the four persons arrested for the protest at Central Kotwali police station after the assault of the bangle seller on August 22.

They have been accused of spreading inflammatory messages on social media and conspiring to trigger riots in the city. “We have recommended NSA charges against those arrested in the case,” SP Ashutosh Bagri told TOI.

During interrogation, it was found that one of the accused, Altamas Khan, was “highly impressed by the videos shot by Taliban after their recent takeover of Afghanistan”, said the SP. “He used to share videos of the Taliban on social media. He had created the social media groups shortly after the Taliban takeover and had started conspiring to trigger riots,” he added.

On August 30, home minister Narottam Mishra had said that Altamas has “Pakistan links through WhatsApp and Facebook”. “The objectionable material found on him was enough to disturb peace in Madhya Pradesh,” Mishra had said.

Apart from 28-year-old Altamas, a resident of Hussaini Masjid Ishaq Colony, the others arrested are Md Imran Ansari alias Munazeer Ansari of Ranipura, Javed Khan of Kanadia Road and Syyed Irfan Ali alias Rashid of Goya Road, Khajrana. They have been booked under IPC sections 153A (prompting enmity between different groups, religions and create disharmony).
