Indore-Bhopal Intercity special train resumes service

INDORE: The Railways on Wednesday resumed the Dr Ambedkar Nagar-Bhopal (via Indore) Intercity special train (09323) - around five months after it was discontinued due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Intercity train departed from Indore railway station with more than 66% occupancy on the first day of resuming operation. “The special train departed from Indore on its usual timing at 06.15am with 640 passengers,” said a spokesman with the Ratlam division of the Western Railway.

He said that around 21 passengers were in the AC chair car coach, and the remaining 619 in second class coaches.

“The train service was resumed in February this year after the first wave of the pandemic, but it had to be suspended again within a month due to the second wave,” he pointed out.

With this, the number of trains operating to and from Indore have gone up to over 35 with direct connections to cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Rewa, Dehradun, Jabalpur and state capital Bhopal.

The Railways has also announced to resume operations of three more trains by the end of this week. This includes a daily special express train service between Dahod and Bhopal which is scheduled to start from August 19, and two weekly special trains, including Indore-Bikaner special (09333) and Indore-Nagpur special (09213). These trains will resume from August 21 and 22 respectively.

Officials with the Ratlam division said that all trains are running as special service and are operating as per their previous schedule.

“Passengers with only confirmed tickets are allowed to board these trains and are requested to follow all Covid-19 safety protocols,” official.
