Indore: Administration of COVID-19 vaccine doses decreases 85% ahead of mega drive

INDORE: Indore district has reported 85% decline in administration of daily vaccine doses in the last one week just before mega vaccination drive from Wednesday, shows record.

Administration of doses decreased to 4444 on August 23 to 30,474 on August 16. The district has been administering around 30,000 doses in a day consistently and it crossed 50,000 mark on August 14, as per vaccination bulletin.

Similar trend was reported in the week just before the mega drive held from June 23 to 30. The district on the first day of the drive had made a country-wide record of inoculating over 2.30 lakh doses in a day, but was criticised for hoarding vaccines for it.

District immunisation in charge Dr Tarun said, “There are no intention of Covid-19 vaccine hoarding for mega drive. Vaccination was low since district was only having Covaxin doses and on Monday, administration of only second dose was allowed.”

The district had around 50,000 Covaxin doses in stock. But it has been operating in limited manner and was struggling for doses of Covishield, he added

Dr Gupta said:“We didn’t have Covishield in stock for vaccination on Monday. Over 1000 Covishield doses, which were in the pipeline, were also used in Monday inoculation.”

The district, however, will target to exhaust its 1.50 lakh doses in stock on the first day of the mega drive to inoculate as many as possible.
