Indore: 52 beds in PICU, 26 in ICU yet to be started

INDORE: Health authorities are yet to start 52 beds in Paediatrics Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and 26 in Intensive Care Units (ICU) in five districts of Indore division, showed records.

The authorities have only operationalised six beds in PICU in Alirajpur against the plan of 10, showed report collected from office of regional director (health services) Indore division.

In the division, the authorities have decided to set up 58 beds PICU beds and 26 ICU beds in these five districts in division after havoc of second wave of pabdemic. The deadline was September 30 for setting up of additional bed capacity. But, even after more than two and half months after this deadline the additional PICU, ICU beds are not in operations.

Regional director (health services) Dr Ashok Dagaria said, "All other districts except Barwani has almost completed the works for setting up of PICU and ICU beds and would be taken over by health department very soon."

In Barwani, 10 PICU and 16 ICU beds are to be set up. But, it lags as all major work including sanitary, flooring, paint, electricity works are pending, showed records.

In Jhabua and Burhanpur only epoxy paint work for 16 and 10 PICU work remains. So, it will happen very soon, said Dr Dagaria. Khargone district authorities delayed take over of 12 PICU bed work because of minor window gap filling pending. It is because of technical reason that the contractor would not do a single work after handover, said Dr Dagaria.

"These beds in PICU and ICU will help in tackling any peak of COVID, if and when it hit us", added Dr Dagaria. TNN
