Indoor street food market Platform relaunches as casual dining restaurant

Indoor street food market Platform says it is booked up for a month after reinventing itself as a casual dining restaurant.

Coronavirus restrictions at the venue in Glasgow's old Arches have made it impractical for customers to wander from stall to stall with paper plates and pints as before.

Instead there will be table service with food ordered using a phone app to minimise the number of people moving around. The venue will also switch from disposable food containers to crockery and cutlery which will be washed at high temperatures.

The venue reopens at noon on Friday, July 17, with a capacity of 350. A limited number of walk-in tables will be kept free each day, and bookings are already being taken for September. It will continue to open on Fridays and Saturdays.

Traders include Gallus Pasta, Tiny Dancers and Ginger & Chilli.

Guests will enter through a thermal scanner to check for Covid fever symptoms, before a host guides them through the one-way system to their table.

Platform owner Scott McCormick said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the support from Glasgow and can’t wait to reveal our new street food concept this weekend.

“A lot of love has gone into this menu development and we’re confident in our new offering. The response to our new restaurant has been incredible.”
