Indoor care home visiting is still not safe to resume in Lanarkshire

NHS Lanarkshire say they are not able to reintroduce indoor visiting in Lanarkshire care homes at this time.

Indoor visiting could be reinstated from August 24 across Scotland if safe to do so.

However, health board officials say it is important that these plans are considered in the context of local community prevalence of Covid-19 and any increase in new infections.

NHS Lanarkshire has considered these issues locally, in conjunction with the Health Protection Team, and due to concern about the development of cases and clusters in Lanarkshire, and elsewhere, we are not able to reintroduce indoor visiting in Lanarkshire care homes at this time.

Indoor visiting for end-of-life care or to support a resident’s wellbeing at times of distress can continue, as long as all infection prevention and control measures are in place, including appropriate use of PPE.

Outdoor visiting can also continue. The matter will be kept under review.

All care homes in Lanarkshire have received a letter to advise them of this decision.
